Flying to Oshkosh

This was the year that Liz and I wanted to fly to Oshkosh. Even though our trusty 152 only does 95 knots and it would take over 5 hours to get there, that was still far better than the 13 hours it takes us to drive. I took the entire Airventure week off from work with the plan that, as soon as 3 or more good VFR days string themselves together, we would launch. We sent our camping gear up with the Paul and Pat and rented the campsite for the entire week, we were set.

A great story of Carl's trip to Oshkosh and then on to Machinac Island. This is definitely one of those "must do" trips.

Ebay Tanis Story

Now on my 12th hour of studying on this gloomy December Sunday, I decided I had better check the EAA 46 Chapter webpage to find out what is going on out there. I came across the “Pilot Stories” page, which I had never seen before. And, after reading Bill’s great Ebay story, I decided that I had better share my own story, just to make you all jealous!

GPS On A Budget

I'm a VOR/Pilotage kind of a pilot. I've never needed a GPS and I never really wanted to spend the money on one. All of that changed with a visit to Ebay only not like you think. I still ended up with a moving-map GPS for a little more than $100!

Instead of going to the next $100 burger joint, try the Niagara Falls Scenic Flight. It's easy once you know the rules. We did it for the first time today.

Anniversary Flight

Talk about togetherness! What better way for two people to spend all day together than to put them both in a 152. Liz and I spend our anniversary flying. Breakfast at Oswego, then on to Alexandria Bay.

Last Fly-in breakfast of the summer

I wasn’t sure what to expect, after all, I was going to land at an airport that had no identifier. I told Flight Service and Approach Control that I was landing in a field in Cambria. What I found was a very nice airport, a few old friends, a couple of new friends and an unexpected surprise on the way home.

Trip to Chautauqua
By Bill King

It took a bit of patience on Liz’s part. She would occasionally mention it. But the combination of free admission and the opportunity to fly the plane were the things that finally got me to go to the Chautauqua Institute. After visiting, I’m sorry it took me so long! If you’ve never been to the institute, put this on your list of things to do. I’m definitely going back.

A while back I sent out the call for pilot stories from the chapter. Our esteemed President Jim Cavanaugh responded with a story about his experience taking his last BFR.

I set out today to take a friend to Boston. This turns out to be my longest trip ever. I flew there and back in 8.8 hours!
